I recently participated in the RAW Artist New Orleans showcase... Immediately after getting the email I had visions of a mashup of Boho Disney Princess and Bridal Game of Thrones.. With flowers!
After looking at photos from previous RAW showcases and seeing the direction that other hair stylist have gone in. I wanted to stay away from Avant Garde/edgy looks, because although absoluelty beauiful and creative, that's not who I am. I wanted my looks to be achievable for a real wedding.
To make my visions come to life, I grabbed my some of my favorite heads of hair to model and my girl Vanessa to assist me.
For the hairstyles I wanted waves, braids, twists, and flowers added in. I feel like it took me a pretty long time to find my hair niche, I was scared of the messy textured hair styles. But in the last year I have embraced it and really found what styles I’m meant to be doing. Braids have always been a big part of my life and I’m inspired by the fact that every braid has its own personality. I knew that I wanted each of my models and myself to have at least one braid.
For the makeup I chose soft and glowy with fluttering lashes. I used the Raw show as an excuse to finally purchase the two eye shadow palettes I’ve been covering for forever. The Huda Beauty Rose Gold palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. The nudes and pink shadows were used to give the models a soft whimsical eye look. I chose to use Wet ‘n’ Wild MegaGlo Highlight in Blossom Glow; because I love the pink tone and the dewy effect it leaves. My models are wearing KISS Blowout Lash in Pixie. Theses lashes are so soft and fluffy and romantic with just enough drama. They are quickly becoming my new go to. For my makeup I used Huda Beauty Classic Lash in Scarlett and Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip In Avenue.
I wanted a neutral color scheme that complimented my looks. Long bridesmaid style dresses, (Tiffany wore her dress from my wedding... I told her I'd find a way for her to wear it again.)
For the crown braid; I needed someone with hair that’s not too long and not too short, not too thick and not too thin. I prepped Bridgette’s hair with Amika Un.Done Texture Spray, curled with my Bio Ionic 1” StyleWinder, and finished with R+Co Vicious Strong Hold Flexible Hairspray. I sectioned out the tendrils before braiding.
Tiffany is my life sized Barbie doll and her hair needed to illustrate that. With a glamorous yet little bit boho half up that Malibu Barbie herself would be jealous of. I prepped her hair with R+Co Skyline Dry Shampoo Powder, Living Proof Humidity Shield, and curled with Bio Ionic 1” StyleWinder. I then used R+Co Sail Soft Wave Spray to tousle the curls into beachy waves. Tiffany’s half up is made of overlapping pulled apart twists and braids with peek-a-boo braids.
If anyone could pull off the ponytail that I wanted to do, it’s Francesca and her long thick perfectly textured hair. To prep the hair I used R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo, Sexy Hair Powder Play, Living Proof Humidity Shield, and curled with. Bio Ionic 1” StyleWinder. Her side ponytail is made messy twists and finished with a fishtail braid.
I have wanted to do this mermaid braid on Jessica since the day I met her... I’m not going to give too much away for this style because there might be a tutorial coming soon (wink wink). The hair was prepped with Living Proof PhD Dry Shampoo, curled with Bio Ionic 1” StyleWinder, and roughed up each twist of the braid with R+Co Outer Space Flexible Hairspray. This style was created by making one braid and then roping in twists at every point.
I gave myself a side pull through braid for maximum volume and fullness. This is seriosuly my favrotie hair style right now!
